One Month Later...
"I'M BORED, SANS. CAN WE GO OUT SOMEWHERE AND DO SOMETHING?"
Sans, who had been in the middle of reading one of Gaster's old astrology books, looked over at his brother, who was sitting on the floor by the TV, and once again fumbling with his Rubik's cube. Gaster was currently at work for the day, and wouldn't be back until late in the afternoon.
"i dunno, bro," said Sans, glancing at the ceiling for a moment before reading his book again. "i think gaster would want us to stay in the house. y'know, to stay out of trouble."
"OH."
Papyrus stared down at his color cube for a few more seconds.
"COULD WE WALK AROUND SNOWDI

All was quiet within the Gaster residence in New Home. All of the rooms, save for one, were currently unoccupied, filled only with furniture instead of living monsters.
W.D. Gaster was sitting in his study, trying to make forward progress on his paperwork while one of his ballpoint pens hovered over the papers. His brow was furrowed in deep thought; he knew what it was he wanted to write, what it was he wanted to work on for his scientific research....
But he was unable to concentrate. He was unable to continue.
He was, as much as he hated to admit it... distracted.
Gaster sighed and set the pen down, taking a moment

For the rest of the weekend, after that Saturday morning, Alphys spent her time helping Gaster set up the two bedrooms upstairs.
It took more than just the weekend, really. It took more time than either of them originally anticipated, especially since Gaster had to return to work when Monday morning came around. But Alphys, since she was given permission by her superiors to take some time off, helped Sans and Papyrus in setting up their bedrooms -- getting their new beds, picking out their dressers, finding new books and other accessories to personalize their new homes.
Of course, before leaving for work, Gaster strictly reminded Alphys not

He knew he was dreaming again. Like before, there was that warm, fuzzy sensation that always seemed to coat his body. He always felt it whenever he was having a dream or a nightmare.
Like before, he was back in that place, on the Surface. He had once again reverted to his younger self: His hands and face was devoid of holes and scars, he was wearing those blue shoes that were one size too big, and that soft scarf of scarlet red was comfortably wrapped around his neck.
Like before, the grass was glistening with dew. The sun was shining overhead, its rays piercing through the leaves and branches of the maple trees.
Without a second thought,

Papyrus wasn't entirely sure what to think. A jumble of emotions were currently thriving within his Soul. He was excited, delighted, nervous, filled to the brim with anticipation....
The grip Gaster had around his hand was tight, but not so much that it was uncomfortable. Papyrus kept his eye sockets on his father and his brother as they walked down the corridors of the lab, which had nearly been reduced to ruins thanks to Memoryhead. But they ignored it and stepped over whatever pieces of rubble lay on the floors as they neared the exit, which was located at the far end of the laboratory's west wing. Behind them, Gaster's boxes and bags fol

"so what do we need to do? how are we gonna fix my brother's soul? we can fix it in time, can't we? is there any way i could help? maybe i -"
"Oh, for God's sake, 1-S; you know I can't focus properly whenever you and your brother bombard me with so many questions...."
As Gaster and 1-S made their way over to the examination room, which was several doors down from the bedroom in which 2-P was resting, 1-S couldn't help but ask so many questions. And, of course, it was giving Gaster a slight headache as he was trying to make a mental list of the things he needed for the operation.
The two skeletons walked into the examination room, where too
